ITIL V3, the latest version of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), representing a significant advancement for the practice of Business Service Management (BSM). Changes in ITIL V3 include the restructuring of the library into a service lifecycle framework with lifecycle stages that include Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, and Continuous Service Improvement. ITIL V3 also refines the definition of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and introduced a more powerful system, the Configuration Management System (CMS), in which the CMDB fits. At the same time, ITIL V3 has directly acknowledged BSM and discusses it as the ongoing practice of governing, monitoring, and reporting on IT and the business service it impacts.
